Early Literacy at 4th Street Farms

A Little Free Library is a “take a book, return a book” free book exchange. There is an understanding that real people are sharing their favorite books with their community. Little Libraries have been called “mini-town squares” because they bring people of all ages together to expand their minds through sharing ideas.

4th Street Farms and Bonga Media Group are partnering with the Weinland Park Community Civic Association to build a little free library. Building a Little Free Library at 4th Street Farms brings together a unique combination of a book exchange with a garden campus to hold meetings,img_0616activities, and events, as well as further reading space in an inspiring setting. The location is 1/2 block north of Weinland Park Elementary School and the Schoenbaum Family Center, making it easy to reach for families. Placing this Little Free Library at 4th Street in Weinland Park makes a big community impact in areas that matter like youth, literacy, safety, creativity, and a lifetime of engagement within a revitalizing diverse neighborhood.

Along with many garden events, 4th Street Farms has hosted literacy programs engaging neighborhood children. A Good Start has dedicated the initial donation of children’s books and also pledged to continue literacy programs! Watch for 2017 dates to come and everyday, 24/7 come find a book to enjoy anytime!
