The Plan

lflEveryone can help create amazing community and support the Little Free Library.  Bring books, treats and pantry items to fill the Little Free Library. Take home a book or two that you want to explore!

Here is where we started: One component of our mission at 4th Street Farms is education. So, the summer of 2015 we did some small early literacy programs in partnership with A Good Start, a Head Start program working with Weinland Park kids. That got us talking about a Little Free Library and we started to look for a design that would really add value to the community. We wanted to provide some seating in the southwest end of the garden to prevent parking from the alley, echo the pergola at the front of the garden, and create another component to education in the garden.

These priorities in Weinland Park reflect a long history of engagement in our community, which occupies roughly 215 acres just southeast of The Ohio State University’s main campus. We have almost 5,000 residents in 2,000 households. 50% of our residents are African-American and there is a substantial Hispanic/Latino, Middle Eastern, and growing Somali population. Only 18% of our neighbors have full time employment. 43% of our neighbors have experienced gun violence personally
